Ivelisse Estrada Senior Fellow Excelencia in Education Ivelisse Estrada, a visionary communications and social-Impact Leader at the national level, is joining Excelencia in Education as a Senior Fellow. Estrada was Senior Vice President of Corporate and Community Relations at Univision Communications Inc. for more than 20 years. She developed and coordinated the launch of a comprehensive, multi-year national education initiative called Es El Momento (The Moment is Now) in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the U.S. Department of Education, educators and civic and community leaders from around the country. She currently serves on the Values Commission, a 30-member panel of national higher education leaders, business representatives and foundation experts formed by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. They will examine the value of postsecondary education and offer recommendations about how to define and measure that value. A native of Puerto Rico, Estrada graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Romance Languages and Literature from Barnard College and earned two Master’s of Arts degrees from Harvard and Princeton. Her first career was a Spanish professor at a small college in New York. When she joined the media corporation, she used her education experience as a teacher and communicator in her daily work with other Latino advocacy groups. Her focus has been on Latino community engagement and empowerment ever since. In her role as an Excelencia Senior Fellow, Estrada will advise corporate, media, and community engagement for institutional transformation to better serve Latino students.
