A transformative leader in higher education

Excelencia in Education was founded in 2004 by Sarita Brown and Deborah Santiago with a mission to accelerate Latino student success in higher education. They set off on their own to create a national effort, grounded in research, policy analysis, and a commitment to collaborate with others to accelerate Latino achievement. This Latina-led organization has steadily grown to become an authority in this field. It has built a reputation as a national transformative leader and innovator in higher education by informing, organizing and compelling action.

Excelencia is ensuring America’s future with rich Latino talent that enhances civic leadership and workforce. In 2019, Excelencia launched an independent national certification for institutions intentionally serving Latino students while serving all. Excelencia has created a network with trendsetting professionals and has become the leading information source on Latino students, their needs and strengths.
