Gail Mellow

President
A social psychologist with extensive experience in higher education, Gail Mellow has served since 2000 as President of LaGuardia Community College, one of the country’s most ethnically diverse campuses, with over 50,000 students from 160 countries, who pursue baccalaureate education at over twice the national average. In addition, Dr. Mellow holds leadership positions with national higher education associations, including the National Commission for Cooperative Education, the Community College Research Center at Columbia University, the Council for the Advancement of Adult Literacy, the National Workforce Strategies Board and the American Council on Education, as well as spearheading local economic development with LaGuardia’s Small Business Development Center, and NY Designs, a business incubator for design professionals. She is the co-author of three books and more than thirty articles. Her third book, Minding the Dream: The American Community College, was published in 2008. She received an A.A. from Jamestown Community College, a B.A. from SUNY Albany, and her M.A. and Ph.D. from The George Washington University.
