Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI)

Since Excelencia's founding, we have worked with diverse institutions serving and graduating Latino students and have tracked HSIs and Emerging HSIs.

HSIs are defined in federal legislation as public or not-for-profit degree granting institutions with 25% or more Latino undergraduate full-time equivalent enrollment (Higher Education Act 2008).

Excelencia in Education created the term "Emerging HSIs" as a way to track institutions on their way to becoming an HSIs. Emerging HSIs are defined as institutions as public or not-for-profit degree granting institutions with 15-24% Latino undergraduate full-time equivalent enrollment.
