Overview

Located along the U.S./Mexico border, The University of Texas at El Paso is one of the largest and most successful Hispanic-serving institutions in the country. As an AACSB accredited program, the Ph.D. in Business Administration prepares new generations of faculty from diverse backgrounds to meet critical research and teaching challenges projected in business. Among our numerous program goals, we aim to increase enrollment, retention, graduation, and placement of doctoral students from the southwest.

Program Description

The Ph.D. in Business Administration program is one of only 25 such programs worldwide accredited by the AACSB International designed to prepare new generations of faculty from diverse backgrounds to meet critical research and teaching challenges projected in business and in particular, international business education. Ph.D. students are trained to plan and execute high-quality research that is publishable in major scholarly journals. Ph.D. students attend national and international conferences, where they have the opportunity to present papers and network with scholars in their fields as well as in related fields. The full-time program also offers the opportunity for secondary specializations in accounting, finance, information systems, management, and marketing. Further, the program supports student success through mentoring, diversifying the faculty (24% Latino full-time faculty), and providing affordable graduate business education.

Outcome

  • In Fall 2020, 34% (11 of 32) of our current students came from Texas and its surrounding areas (ex. Mexico and New Mexico). Out of these students, 73% (8 of 11) are Latinx.
  • The number of enrolled Latinx students in our program doubled from 4 in Fall 2016 to 8 in Fall 2020.
  • Including Fall 2020, 30 Latinx students have enrolled in our program since its inception in 2004, with 18 of them completing their degree within 7 years.
  • Since 2004, 100% (18 of 18) of our Latinx graduates were hired at academic institutions or in the private sector upon completion of their Ph.D.
