Excelencia in Education Welcomes Two Outstanding Leaders to Organization’s Board of Directors

John Cavanaugh, Audrey Dow elected to serve


Washington, D.C. – Excelencia in Education announced today it is welcoming two outstanding professionals working for Latino student success in higher education as new members of its Board of Directors.

John Cavanaugh of Chapel Hill, NC and Audrey Dow of Hacienda Heights, CA were unanimously elected recently to begin serving terms in January 2021. Both add their talents and leadership skills to the Excelencia Board of Directors, where they will advance Excelencia’s plan to ensure America’s future by increasing Latino college completion and workforce success.

Cavanaugh recently served as President and CEO of the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area, representing 17 colleges and universities. He is recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in higher education policy, innovation and technology, quality assurance, and accreditation. 

Dow is the Senior Vice President for the California-based Campaign for College Opportunity. She has over 20 years of experience in the public and nonprofit sectors. Throughout her career, she has been focused on finding solutions to some of the most pressing issues facing the state of California including access and success in higher education.

Both professionals join the following distinguished leaders currently serving on the board:

  • Marie Therese Dominguez, Commissioner of the New York State Department of Transportation
  • Maria Harper-Marinick, Senior Fellow of the Aspen Institute
  • Martha Kanter, Executive Director of College Promise Campaign
  • Arturo Madrid, Murchison Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Trinity University
  • William Serrata, President of El Paso Community College
