Joseph A. Aguerrebere served for eight years as President and CEO of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) in Arlington, Virginia. NBPTS is now recognized as the gold standard for identifying and developing quality educators.
Prior experience includes serving as Deputy Director of the Education, Knowledge, and Religion unit of the Ford Foundation in New York. Dr. Aguerrebere was born and raised in East Los Angeles, California and graduated from Garfield High School (the school made famous by Jaime Escalante and the movie, Stand and Deliver). He attended the University of Southern California where he earned a bachelors degree in political science, and masters and doctorate degrees in educational administration.
