.XL Summer Bridge/First-Year Experience Program
The .XL Program is based on a learning community model: a multi-generational community of teachers and learners who will support one another to succeed academically and personally. It is also based on national and institutional research that has established a strong correlation between first-term enrollment in English and math and increased retention and persistence.

The .XL Program helps students make a smooth transition from high school to college.
Outcome:
- Demographics: .XL students are younger and more Latino/a than mainstream and basic skills students at PCC. Latinos/as make up 34% of the PCC student body, 39% of the basic skills population, and 79% of .XL.
- Success: Students in .XL Cohorts 4-6 succeeded in all of their classes at a higher rate (79%) than PCC students in all classes (66%) and PCC students in basic skills classes (59%). Even the lowest performing cohort, .XL5, was more successful (74%) than either of these other groups.
- Basic skills to transfer math: 25% of .XL 4-6 students who began in Math 402 (Level 1, pre-algebra) registered for a transfer-level math course within 9 semesters, compared with 11% of their non-.XL counterparts.
- .XL persistence: The fall-to-spring persistence rate of .XL students is 88%, compared to 69% for all first-time students the 67% for Latinos/as.
- Basic skills English: 63% of .XL4 students succeeded in the next level of English, compared to 24 % of their PCC counterparts.
