Undergraduate Research Program
Undergraduate students are trained to conduct research in environmental and molecular biology issues related to animal food production. Faculty from five different academic departments serve as mentors for the students. Students are expected to write a research report and to present their results at local or international meetings.
The goal of the program is to increase the number of qualified undergraduate students with a solid scientific knowledge of the environmental and molecular biology concerns facing the agricultural sector.
All participants of the Undergraduate Research Program (URP) are Latinos (60% women and 40% men). Of the 40 students who have participated in the program over the last five years, 34 have finished their BS degree. Twenty-two former participants have been admitted to graduate or professional schools. Ten are currently graduate students and four have completed MS degrees. Six students are enrolled in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) programs, and two have completed the degree. URP is currently recruiting the sixth class of scholars.
