Graduation Achievement Project
Goal/Mission: 

The University proposes to integrate services to expedite and ease the return of Latino/Latina students with 90 credits hours or more who left the university in good standing without completing a Bachelors degree. The project coordinator will evaluate students' transcripts to determine the courses to be completed for graduation and then work closely with each student to complete all necessary forms, a program of study with a timeline, register for face-to-face and/or on-line courses that meet the needs and schedule of each student, contact faculty when necessary, and essentially act as a concierge, guiding each student through graduation. The Coordinator will conduct an on-going review of transcripts and contact students every semester to determine if they are on track for their target graduation date.

Outcome: 

By the end of the one-year grant, the program:

  • Integrated all CSU-Pueblo services necessary for students to reenter college. A total of 88 students were re-enrolled and within the one year grant period, 40 students (46%) received an undergraduate degree. GAP expects that number to increase to 75% graduated by the end of 2012.
  • As a result of the project, the campus has a better understanding of system issues that need to be addressed to improve graduation rates. One example is that the GAP office has relocated to the Records Office so that staff is proximate to student records, financial aid and accounts receivable. Staff is better able to identify and address obstacles to students' return and provide one place for the student to go to verify next steps towards graduation.
  • The Coordinator now works closely with administrative and academic units to assist returning students in a smooth process of entry and completion.
