Hispanics have a higher labor force participation rate than others. In 2006, the labor force participation rate—the percentage of persons 16 years and over who were working or looking for work—was 69% percent for Hispanics, 64% for blacks, and 66% for whites and Asians.
2009 SEMILLAS
In September 2009 Excelencia in Education announced the twenty campuses selected to receive SEMILLAS grants. The acronym for Seeding Educational Models that Impact and Leverage Latino Academic Success is SEMILLAS, the Spanish word for seeds and reflects the initiative's goal of growing good practice at the grassroots level.
