"North Carolina State University is honored to be a recipient of The Walmart Semillas Grant. This is an excellent indication of our shared goal of advancing Latino students through higher education. We welcome the opportunity to partner with Excelencia in Education as it continues to pursue a goal of importance to North Carolina and, indeed, all of this country."
Join us as we recognize the 2009 Examples of Excelencia at the Associate, Baccalaureate and Graduate levels and release the 2009 edition of What Works for Latino Students in Higher Education Compendium.
Keynote Speaker: U.S. Department of Education Under Secretary Martha Kanter
Today only 13% of Latinos, as opposed to 30% of all other adults in the United States, have a bachelor's degree. Although institutions of higher education are attempting to meet the educational needs of the nation's fastest growing community, without effective strategies, too few are achieving results.
Excelencia in Education responds to this challenge through a uniquely results-driven approach that is inspiring and informing policy makers and institutions about practices and policies that yield better outcomes for Latino students. The Examples of Excelencia initiative annually identifies and promotes effective programs and departments producing positive results for Latino students and all students.
